Storytelling is an art as old as time. When we tell stories, we not only learn lessons, but we also develop the essential skills of writing, communication, and self-expression. Best Teller is a social initiative geared towards making the art of storytelling accessible to students from all walks of life. Started in June of 2022 by Soha Aggarwal, a high school student from Mumbai, the project uses a multi pronged approach to help children and teens engage with writing stories, understand more about the world of creative writing, and evolve foundational skills that are useful in the long run.
Project Best Teller has so far created the Best Teller Curriculum, oriented around the basics of storytelling, including topics like different types of stories, types of writing, character development, and more. In partnership with Sparsha, the curriculum was taught to students at the trust in a series of engaging workshops. The workshops concluded in the Finding Best Teller award, a story writing and telling contest in which students utilized their newly learned skills to write and narrate stories on a given set of prompts.
The project has also donated the materials developed to Sparsha for future use, and hopes to expand its work to cover more organizations that work to help students in difficult conditions.
The project believes in a hands on, and educational approach for the betterment of students from marginalized communities, and in that vein, hopes to make a long term and tangible impact through a fundraiser for the benefit of the NGO’s ongoing efforts and programs. Any amount donated will directly benefit students Sparsha works with, and will aid our and Best Tellers work in the area of disseminating quality and meaningful learning.
